Yesterday at about 12 noon, a container ship that had gone adrift
because of the heavy storm severely damaged one of the
MOT’s jetties. About 80 meters of this jetty - including pipelines -
was swept away. As a result, around 200-400 cubic meters of
crude oil spilled into the port.

The authorities and emergency services were alerted immediately.
But unfortunately, the cleanup operation was delayed due to
the heavy storm. The cleanup operation has started this morning.

We will inform about the operational consequences as quickly
as possible. The second jetty of the MOT is in use.

The incident created a stench in the vicinity, but poses no risk
to the health of people. Luckily, no one was hurt in the accident.

Gisteren, om 12 uur ’s middags heeft een, door de storm op drift
geraakt containerschip, een van de steigers van de MOT zeer
zwaar beschadigd.Ongeveer 80 meter van dit steiger is
weggeslagen, inclusief pijpleidingen.
Hierbij is circa 200-400cbm ruwe aardolie in de haven gelopen.

Autoriteiten en hulpdiensten zijn direct gewaarschuwd maar door
de zware storm kon helaas niet gelijk begonnen worden met
schoonmaakwerkzaamheden.
Deze zijn vandaag opgestart.

Operationele gevolgen zullen zo spoedig mogelijk worden
gecommuniceerd. De tweede steiger van de MOT is gewoon
in gebruik.

Het incident heeft stank veroorzaakt in de omgeving.
Deze stank is niet gevaarlijk voor de gezondheid.
Persoonlijke ongevallen hebben zich gelukkig niet voor gedaan.
